Mechanism of Action: Teipoplanin is a high-molecular-weight glycopeptide compound that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by preventing the linking of peptidoglycan constituents.
Spectrum of Activity: The glycopeptides are active only against Gram-positive bacteria, particularly methicillin-resistant staphylococci. They do not penetrate the cell wall of Gram-negative bacteria.
Dosage: Serious infections: 400mg-800mg IV 12hr for 1-3 days, then maintenance dose daily. Meningitis, bacterial: 2gm IV every 8 hourly.
